Why You Need a URL Export Before Migrating

When moving from SquareSpace to Shopify, URL structures will change and users can end up on broken pages if not fixed.

SquareSpace uses structured paths for products, collections, and blog content that differ from Shopify's fixed format. Squarespace groups products under /shop/ and uses flexible page slugs, while Shopify separates content into /products/, /collections/, /pages/, and /blogs/. For example:

In SquareSpace, a product URL looks like /shop/blue-shirt
In Shopify it changes to: /products/blue-shirt

A SquareSpace collection URL looks like: /shop/summer-collection
and in Shopify that same collection's URL will be: /collections/summer-collection
